ChatGPT Ads vs. Google Ads vs. Meta Ads — An Early Comparison

ChatGPT Ads is the newest of the three by a wide margin — OpenAI only opened self-serve access in May 2026 for the US, and it reached 31 European markets, including Italy, at the end of August 2026. Here's how it stacks up against the two platforms most marketers already know.

What's genuinely different

ChatGPT Ads targets by conversation context rather than keywords or demographics — an ad appears when the topic of your chat is commercially relevant, not because you searched a specific term or fit an audience profile. That's a meaningfully different signal than either established platform uses.

What's still immature

Reporting is aggregated rather than conversation-level, several early advertisers have told trade press they've struggled to prove clear ROI, and the ad format itself (a single card with name, image, headline, description) is far simpler than what Google or Meta offer. Expect targeting, measurement, and creative options to expand quickly — this is a platform in its first year, not its final form.

Our take

Worth testing now for the first-mover advantage and low minimum spend, but treat it as a smaller, exploratory line item next to a mature Google or Meta budget — not a replacement for either yet.
